Quantum Italy Deployment

Al fine garantire un livello di sicurezza nelle comunicazioni senza precedenti, integrando nel sistema convenzionale le nuove tecnologie quantistiche, la Commissione Europea, di concerto con gli Stati Membri e l’Agenzia Spaziale Europea, ha dato vita alla costruzione della Quantum Communication Infrastructure (EuroQCI) rivolta a tutta l’Unione. EuroQCI si comporrà di un segmento terrestre, principalmente su architetture in fibra ottica, completato da un segmento spaziale, con collegamenti via satelliti tra siti europei selezionati. Per realizzare EuroQCI, la Commissione e gli Stati Membri guardano allo sviluppo di una filiera industriale europea completa, oltre cha agli sviluppi di iniziative di quantum communication nazionale degli stati membri. > Questo progetto sostiene il dispiegamento iniziale di network avanzate di comunicazione quantistica in Italia. Gli obiettivi del progetto sono duplici. Da un lato, dispiegare sul territorio nazionale sistemi e network per provare le tecnologie di comunicazione quantistica, e in particolare per la Distribuzione quantistica di chiavi crittografiche, con l’attenzione a integrarle con le comunicazioni esistenti. Dall’altra, usare questi sistemi e queste network per sviluppare degli use cases a sostegno delle iniziative QCI nazionali, nel contesto della EuroQCI.

In order to guarantee an unprecedented level of security in communications, integrating new quantum technologies into the conventional system, the European Commission, in agreement with the Member States and the European Space Agency, has initiated the implementation of the Quantum Communication Infrastructure (EuroQCI) aimed at the whole Union. EuroQCI will consist of a terrestrial segment, mainly on optic fiber architectures, complemented by a space segment, with satellite links between selected European sites. To achieve EuroQCI, the Commission and the Member States are looking at the development of a complete European industrial chain, as well as the development of national quantum communication initiatives of the member states. This project supports the initial deployment of advanced quantum communication networks in Italy. The objectives of the project are twofold. On the one hand, deploy systems and networks on the national territory to test quantum communication technologies, and in particular for the quantum distribution of cryptographic keys, with the focus on integrating them with existing communications. On the other hand, use these systems and networks to develop use cases in support of national QCI initiatives, in the context of the EuroQCI.
