Abstract
Seismic interferometry, either based on seismic noise or earthquake data, is becoming an attractive tool for passive and non-invasive analysis and monitoring of the earth and strategic structures. However, its use is still mainly confined at the scientific level due to a limited transfer of knowledge to the end users and to the lack of cost effective tools and instruments for its application. MODERN aims at filling these gaps by improving and experimenting seismic interferometry approaches, implementing them in real time analysis tools, and integrating them with newly developed ad-hoc technological solutions, for the application by professionals, medium-size enterprises and industries. MODERN is organised in six work packages, where the seismic interferometry method will be applied in a multi-disciplinary framework, to earthquake site response assessment, advanced seismic monitoring of buildings dynamic, soil-structure interaction, strategic infrastructures state-of-health monitoring (e.g., bridges), and also for imaging the underground structure at industrial sites involving fluid injection (e.g., geothermal, underground gas storage) by using small-scale temporary seismic arrays. In particular, the WPs are dedicated to the development of real time software for seismic interferometry analysis, the implementation of the software for the research and public sector utilisation, and its integration in newly and ad hoc developed instruments for private sector beneficiaries.
