Assistant Professor at the Department of Organic Chemistry of the University of Padova since 1983, Maurizio Prato was appointed Associate Professor of Organic Chemistry in the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Trieste in 1992, becoming Full Professor in 2000. He obtained a prestigious grant from the ERC in 2008, was appointed Member of the Accademia dei Lincei in 2010, of the European Academy of Sciences in 2013, of the Academia Europaea in 2015 and of the Venetian Academy of Sciences, Letters and Arts in 2018. He was appointed Honorary Professor at Xi'an Jiaotong University, Xi'an, China. He has published over 600 articles in high-impact international journals, for a total of over 50,000 citations and an h index of 105. He did research at Texas Tech University, Lubbock, USA (1980), University College, Dublin, Ireland (1983), Yale University, New Haven, USA (1986-87), University of California, Santa Barbara, USA (1991- ninety two). He was Professeur Invité at the Departments of Chemistry of the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris, in 2001, at the University of Namur, Belgium, in 2010 and at the University of Strasbourg in 2014. He is Associate Editor of Scientific Reports (Nature Journals) since 2015 and of ChemSusChem (Wiley, since 2015). He is a member of the International Advisory Board of Chemical Communications (RSC, since 1997), Chemical Physics Letters (Elsevier), ACS Nano (ACS from 2014). He has received numerous awards, including, recently, the Blaise Pascal Medal, the European Academy of Sciences (2013) the Natta Gold Medal, Italian Chemical Society (2014), the European Carbon Association Award (2015), French-Italian Chemical Societies Award, (2015), ACS Nano Lectureship Award, American Chemical Society (2015), Highly Cited Researcher (Chemistry, Thomson Reuters), 2005-2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, ChemPubSoc Europe Fellow (2018), Francqui Chair, Fondation Francqui Stitching, Brussels, Belgium (2018).

Maurizio Prato graduated in 1978 from the Department of Organic Chemistry of the University of Padua, where he served as an Assistant Professor in 1983. In 1992 he was appointed Associate Professor of Organic Chemistry in the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Trieste, becoming Full Professor in February 2000. He was Director of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Deputy Director of the Doctoral School in Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences and Technologies. He maintains scientific collaborations with numerous Italian research groups through PRIN projects, and actively collaborates with European and American groups, especially through research programs funded by the European Community under the 4th-7th Framework Program (among others: Training and Mobility of Researchers program BIOFULLERENES: Evaluation of the Biological Properties of Fullerenes and New Fullerene Derivatives, 1998-2002, USEFULL: Usable Fullerene Derivatives: Synthesis, Stabilization, Spectroscopy and Systematics, 1997-2001; RTN WONDERFULL: Widening our knowledge of derivative fullerenes: modeling, synthesis, characterization and application in donor- acceptor ensembles, 2002-2006; RTN EMMMA: Exploiting Mechanical Motion within Molecular Architectures, 2002-2006; European Project "Marie Curie Networks": Supramolecular hierarchical self-assembly of organic molecules onto surfaces towards bottom-up nanodevices: a host-driven action, 2006-2009; European Project Small-Medium Collaborative Network: ANTICARB, Monoclonal ANTIbody-targeted CARBon nanotubes against cancer, 2008-2011). He is the Leader of the Work Package 4 of the Graphene Flagship (Health and Environment). He was Chairman of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Materials Chemistry (2003-2006). He is Associate Editor of Scientific Reports (Nature Journals) since 2015 and of ChemSusChem (Wiley, since 2015). He is a member of the International Advisory Board of Chemical Communications (RSC, since 1997), Chemical Physics Letters (Elsevier), ACS Nano (ACS from 2014).
