Short CV

Princivalle Francesco was born in Merlara (PD) in 1956. Graduated with 110/110 in Geological Sciences at Padova University (26/11/1981) with a dissertation thesis in crystal-chemistry “Crystal-chemistry and crystallographic considerations about clinopyroxenes from ultramafic xenoliths (Victoria, Australia)”. 1983, Assistant Professor in Mineralogy at Trieste University. In 1990 PANICHI award from Italian Society of Mineralogy and Petrology. From 1990 to 1992 member of Administration Council of Trieste University. 1992, Associate Professor in Mineralogy at Trieste University. 2001, Full Professor in Mineralogy at Trieste University. From 2003 to 2009, Director of the Department of Earth Sciences of Trieste University. From 2006 to 2009 member of Academic Board of Trieste University and actually member of Administration Council of Trieste University. Responsible for the X-ray (Single Crystal and Powder diffractometry) and mineralogical separations laboratories and of the Museum of Mineralogy and Petrology of the Trieste University. Since 1992 is involved in the “Geophysics and geodynamic of the lithosphere” Ph.D. of Trieste University. Member of: SIMP (Società Italiana di Mineralogia e Petrografia), AGU (American Geophysical Union) and MSA (Mineralogical Society of America). The scientific activity was mainly devoted to the study of crystal chemistry of minerals (pyroxenes, olivines and spinels) from mafic and ultramafic rocks and the possible applications in petrological and thermodynamical problems. These researches benefit of MURST grants since 1985 with the “Crystal-chemistry and petrogenesis” project, and since 1997 with COFIN97, COFIN99, COFIN01, COFIN04 and PRIN08 grants.

Francesco Princivalle was born in Merlara (PD) in 1956. Actually, he is Full Professor of Mineralogy at the Department of Mathematics and Geosciences of the Trieste University. ERC PE10_10 "Mineralogy, petrology, igneous petrology, metamorphic petrology". In addition, his scientific interest was focused on order-disorder mechanism in synthetic and natural spinels and their dependence on composition, temperature and time. These studies allowed a revision of a geo-thermometer based on Mg-Al cations exchange between T and M sites in spinels. Results of these researches were presented in several international and national congress and published in more than 100 papers. Several experimental techniques were adopted for the mentioned research, ranging from single crystal XRD, electron microprobe to Moessbauer and Raman spectroscopy. In addition, for high pressure investigations was used DAC (diamond anvil cell) and, for computational aspect, molecular dynamics techniques.
