Pubblicazione1921: Dantismi di frontiera. Spazio e tempo del centenario dantesco sul confine orientale(EUT Edizioni Università di Trieste, 2022)Ruggiero, NunzioIn the wake of the Great War the 6th centenary of Dante’s death constitutes an epochal threshold which can be analysed from a geo-semiotic perspective. This report aims to reconstruct the circumstances in which the uses and abuses of Dante’s myth are realised, at the turning point from the liberal to the fascist regime. The circularity between languages, literature, and art that invites comparison between Italian culture and the culture of the Slavic-speaking countries of the Balkans is achieved through this unusual reception of the Divine Comedy, activated between Rijeka, Trieste, and Gorica, on the extreme edge of the Adriatic that unites and separates Eastern and Western Europe.

Pubblicazione1989. Spezzoni di un dibattito europeo(EUT Edizioni Università di Trieste, 2018)Monaldi, MarcelloThe Author compares with some theoretical positions concerning contemporary art to focus on the category of "global art". While Belting uses this category to overcome modern art history, Rebentisch disputes the pertinence and promotes the critical-political role of modern art for the present. But Vettese is skeptical about the impact of political criticism in contemporary art. The Author highlights in this way how the sense of Contemporary is still uncertain and indefinable.

Pubblicazione1994. Perché rifondare “Futuribili” (seconda serie) dopo vent’anni(EUT Edizioni Università di Trieste, 2017)Gasparini, AlbertoIn this editorial, Alberto Gasparini, refounder of “Futuribili” in 1994, shows that 20 years after the demise of “Futuribili” there still is an increasing imperative to inform decision makers of the results of research on the future. While in the late 1970s there was a need to predict the future and come up with answers to social questions, in 1994 reality requires answers to the new questions posed by international changes triggered by the fall of communism. Under such conditions, it is necessary not only to study possible futures, but also to investigate impossible futures to identify their “almost impossible” sides and turn them into possible ones. The aims of new series “Futuribili” are, thus, to resume the project left suspended by Ferraro; gather new scholars around “Futuribili”; strengthen ties with journals such as “Futuribles” and “Futures”; pay close attention to new international themes; reorganise the journal’s structure around theme-based editions under the guidance of guest editors; be more a scientific and cultural forum than a narrowly academic publication and, last but not least, give priority to discussions, dialogue and research which could be linked to some of the international work of the Istituto di Sociologia Internazionale di Gorizia (ISIG), just as the previous series of “Futuribili” under Ferraro had revolved around the Istituto per le Ricerche di Economia Applicata (IREA).

The article is an attempt of deciphering Andrzej Mandalian’s 2008 volume of poems titled Poemat odjazdu. The volume is treated as a coherent piece of literature. On the thematic level, the cohesion is constructed through the connection of every poem with the Warsaw Central Railway Station. In the symbolic plan, the omnipresent motif of journey is to be interpreted as a metaphorical description of human life.

PubblicazioneA bijection between phylogenetic trees and plane oriented recursive trees(EUT Edizioni Università di Trieste, 2018)Prodinger, HelmutPhylogenetic trees are binary non-plane trees with labelled leaves, and plane oriented recursive trees are planar trees with an in- creasing labelling. Both families are enumerated by double factorials. A bijection is constructed, using the respective representations as 2- partitions and trapezoidal words.

PubblicazioneA Bitter Journey: The "Passing" Mulatta as "Expatriate": in Jessie Redmon Fauset's 'Plum Bun'(EUT Edizioni Università di Trieste, 1995)Kroell, SonjaThis paper looks at the phenomenon of “passing”, the movement from one race to another, as it is seen in Jessie Redmon Fauset’s novel "Plum Bun". Documenting this journey by employing some of the headings black feminist critic bell hooks suggests in her essay “Representations of Whiteness in the Black Imagination”, the author wants to show how Fauset, an African American woman writer of the Harlem Renaissance, used the conventional theme of “passing” in order to problematize issues of national identity and expatriation. According to the author of this article the protagonist’s journey from the black community to the white world and back again can, then, be seen in the terms that bell hooks suggests for the creation of an alternative theory of travel. Thus, what the reader of the novel learns from Angela Murray’s experience is, most of all, the importance of perspective in judging both people and events.

PubblicazioneA boundary value problem on the half-line for superlinear differential equations with changing sign weight(EUT Edizioni Università di Trieste, 2012)
;Marini, MauroMatucci, SerenaThe existence of positive solutions x for a superlinear differential equation with p-Laplacian is here studied, satisfying the boundary conditions x(0) = x(∞) = 0. Under the assumption that the weight changes its sign from nonpositive to nonnegative, necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence are derived by combining Kneser-type properties for solutions of an associated boundary value problem on a compact set, a-priori bounds for solutions of suitable boundary value problems on noncompact intervals, and continuity arguments.3 -
PubblicazioneA Brief Abductive Argument for Theistic Ethics(EUT Edizioni Università di Trieste, 2019)Schönecker, DieterI shall develop an abductive argument for the claim that the best explanation for moral facts such as One ought not to rape and kill innocent children for sexual pleasureis that moral norms and values are grounded in God’s will. I will first explain (1) the Moral Question, i. e., the question of why one should be moral at all. I will provide a brief outline of the possible answers to this question and show why most answers fail; here, I will have a closer look at moral naturalism. I will then, secondly (2), contend that the only answer to the Moral Question is theistic: Only God can provide or rather: can be the foundation of morality. Furthermore, I shall argue that only on the basis of a personal God that has a will who sets ends the very idea of moral normativity makes sense. I will conclude with some brief remarks on moral epistemology.

PubblicazioneA car lane-changing model under bus priority-lane effects(EUT Edizioni Università di Trieste, 2013)
;Vu Tu, TranSano, KazushiCar lane-changing behaviour has been well investigated at merging locations or weaving sections where the lane-changes are usually due to different origin-destination trip purposes. However, the lane-changing behaviour under the effects of bus priority-lanes in urban streets has not been received much attention. This kind of behaviour is found to initially depend on the existence of oncoming buses in priority-lanes in urban streets. In this paper, a car lane-changing model under bus priority-lane effects in urban streets is proposed. This model comprises three steps: looking-back threshold determination, gap acceptance model and execution model. The model’s parameters are estimated jointly by using the Maximum Likelihood Method. The research results show that the car lane-changing behaviour under bus-priority-lane effects in urban streets is considered compulsory behaviour. The behaviour has specific characteristics with smaller critical gaps compared with those at other normal lane cases and can be modelled by the proposed model.1 -

In this paper, using the number α of Kuratowski, we give a cha-racterization of compact filterbasis in complete metric spaces (Theorem 1). As a consequence of this characterization we extend some known results of Cantor-Kuratowski, Kuratowski and Painlevé-Kuratowski (Theorem 2t Theorem 3 and Theorem 4 respectively).4
