I curatori hanno ritenuto opportuno mantenere, nella prima sezione, il registro colloquiale derivante dalla trascrizione degli interventi condotta dal dott. Riccardo Papini. Il testo della relazione del Prof. Renzo. S. Crivelli Immigrati sulle navi della disperazione: la «Morning Star» e i suoi derelitti è stato invece fornito dall’Autore.

    6° convegno Convivere con Auschwitz

    Questa edizione degli atti del convegno Convivere con Auschwitz invita a riflettere su quanto è già accaduto, con gli occhi rivolti all’oggi, ma anche al futuro. I temi affrontati in queste 15 relazioni, spiegano questo guardare avanti, oltre che aiutare a comprendere quello che è accaduto prima. Come nella scorsa edizione, hanno partecipato docenti di diverse discipline, sia umanistiche sia scientifiche, superando quindi le barriere che tradizionalmente si frappongono tra le varie discipline, proprio allo scopo di trarre spunti di riflessione dalla più spaventosa tragedia che l’umanità abbia conosciuto.

    A Framework for Justice in Design Practice

    In this paper, we outline a framework for justice in design practice that escape the paradox inclusive design seems to be trapped in and introduces three tools to meet the demands it raises: Rawls’s idea of the original position, cognitive empathy, and public deliberation. We suggest that applying these tools to the design process makes sense of inclusive design as an effective design stance and allows meeting the demands for equitable use it raises. Questo paper delinea un quadro di riferimento per la giustizia nella pratica progettuale che sfugga al paradosso in cui il design inclusivo sembra essere intrappolato e introduce tre strumenti per rispondere alle questioni che esso solleva: l’idea di posizione originale di Rawls, l'empatia cognitiva e la deliberazione pubblica. Viene suggerito come l'applicazione di questi strumenti al processo di progettazione conferisca al design inclusivo il significato di strategia progettuale efficace permettendo di soddisfare le richieste di fruizione equa che esso solleva.

    A GEOPOLITICAL AND GEO-STRATEGIC PERSPECTIVE OF POST-NATIONAL POLITICS IN THE EU AND ITS BORDERS: EUROPEANISATION AS A CULTURAL PHENOMENON IN TRANSCAUCASIA

    How realistic is it to speak of a post-national politics in Europe today, and how authentic are the post-national demos and ethos in today’s EU? Then, whether and how can it be projected towards Transcaucasia? The global uncertain security environment and the vital necessity to meet transnational and asymmetric challenges and threats, make the answers to the above-mentioned questions truly crucial for the effectiveness of the EU policies given their particular decision-making mechanisms. Furthermore, uncertainty over the use and potential of CFSP and ESDP in the process of an appeasement of one of its most dangerous peripheries – Transcaucasia persists. The EU is shaped by rather revolutionary transformations: the May 1st enlargement and the Constitutional Treaty. The latter is posing not-so-easy-to-overcome problems. In the light of these difficulties and of a bitter division over the war in Iraq, considerations of a European Union beyond the nation-state seems to carry with it a breath of idealism rather than realism. The cynicism of Robert Kagan’s vision of Europe as a de-territorialised “post-modern paradise” unable to match the raw territorial might of American power (Kagan, 2003) is rising some affirmative echoes even in the EU. However, things are changing, and in order to succeed in its growing ambition and selfconfidence as a security actor, the EU, has to address issues determining its very nature, the nature of its actual and potential borders and the peculiarities of its neighbours. Today, the EU is an inter-state system acting through a multi-level and networked governance (L. Hooghe and G. Marks, 1996) operating above and below the state, rather than a post-national stability guaranteeing and security projecting grouping. We also have to acknowledge, that a proliferation of interest groups annihilating the traditional distinctions between public and private interest, as a core feature of these emergent governance practices is growing. Whereby, the technocratic allocation of “values” seems to become the primary target for policy-making (Kohler-Koch and Eising, 1999) at an internal level. On the other hand, in Europe, the nation was never mapped fully, nor absolutely onto the state, even at the apogee of modernity, and the very possibility of integration policies in modern western societies has been practicable by “forgetting” the contingent and always partial nature of such a “fit” (Anderson, 1995). For this very reason, an attempt to craft policies independent of nation-state territoriality highlights the natural status of Europe as a community of shared destiny, pointing out the dynamic nature of its future external boundaries. In this perspective the definition of borders by Ratzel as “scars of the history” (Ratzel, 1897), which necessitate to be overcome can still be useful. Since the primary aim of this article is the geopolitical and geo-strategic analysis of the shifting nature of the EU borders, the importance of Gottmann’s circulation/iconography relations (Gottmann, 1952) in the core state ideology and societal trends of its neighbours, and particularly those in Transcaucasia, it is necessary to focalise on different theoretical models, as well as, empirical initiatives, that are or should be carried out by the European Union. While state borders remain the main crossing lines within geopolitics, regional groupings are also seeking for frontier characteristics. A need of understanding the function and identity of such frontiers is emerging. The nature of the European borders is a multifaceted one. In fact, it combines issues linked to migration flows, refugee, asylum and citizenship norms, European integration models and last but not least, security concerns. We can identify an ongoing debate about the EU frontiers from the perspective of the EU as an emerging geopolitical and cultural gravitational model in 442 the world arena. There is a comparison between the EU and a Westphalian state, which is expected to have fixed borders delimiting its territory and a single sovereign centre. In contrast, according to some observers, the EU evokes a post-Westphalian and post-modern political and territorial model, which is moving away from a strong emphasis on bounded territory (Axford and Huggins, 1999).

    A NEW REALITY FOR ITALIAN RURAL AREAS: EDUCATIONAL FARMS

    The educational farms that have existed in Italy for over twenty years are working farms, most with rural tourist facilities, offering educational activities as part of their normal work. They were created in order to supplement income in an agricultural world that is struggling with low farm budgets and encourage young farmers in the sector. They are based, to a large extent, on similar experiences abroad particularly in France, Spain, Belgium and Germany, that have aroused considerable interest also at community level through a series of reference standards that are clearly referred to in the last Rural Development Plan (2000-2006)1. Italian regulations on the subject currently apply to a limited number of regions including Emilia-Romagna, Lazio and Friuli-Venezia Giulia and highlight a sensitivity that, with only a few exceptions, must still be consolidated or has yet to be developed. On the whole, the country is covered by a series of projects that bring together a significant number of farms with one common aim, that of enhancing their land, identity and typical products through carefully planned educational tours. This is not extemporaneous but part of a reassessment of ideas behind land use theories that, for the last few decades, have considered the rural landscape as a resource to be protected and enhanced as far as the identity and quality of places are concerned in order to promote its economic growth rather than being surplus to requirements2. This argument has not taken geographers by surprise and, for some time, they have been affirming the need to examine land using sectorial criteria so that the sciences of Nature and the sciences of Man can be effectively coordinated, as was also stated in Seoul in 2000, at the 29th International Geographical Congress3, when the concept of “diversity" as the main idea behind the study of territorial realities was the subject of debate. Educational farms fall perfectly in line with this concept of geography. Even when fulfilling farm objectives, their intention is to give Man a sense of Nature and the existence of Nature including the ecosystem, economic organization, cultural heritage and the local system when he participates in these guided tours.

    ALL THE NAMES A CROSS-SECTION IN CULTURAL GEOGRAPHY

    Our first intention was to compare the names that actually have participated in the production of the ‘cultural turn’ in geography with the names which are actually available in Portuguese libraries and bibliographies. To do that we have made a very simple exercise that consisted in collecting ‘all the names’ which were present in the 4th edition of The Dictionary of Human Geography, and that were intimately correlated with cultural geography themes. The first blow was eminent: most part of them are not present in the various undergraduate courses available in Portugal, and neither in most of academic dissertations. Feeling rather alarmed with the extension of the list, we tried to make out some order of all these names by mapping them into a ‘conceptual landscape cartography’. The result is the one we can see on this map. This exercise would then consist of a sort of 'cross-section' in the conceptual landscape of cultural geography presenting ‘all the names’ arranged in conceptual spaces (the labels that structure the map) and by date: 1960s, green; 1970s, blue; 1980s, red; 1990s, orange. Being aware that this rhetorical device is subject to the same criticisms of its original exemplar, namely, that it is a freezing moment of a very complex process with differential temporalities which require a heterogeneous concept of time, that does not blur the different processes that are at work here.Vertical Themes With the aim of identifying some of the changing processes present in this ‘horizontal slice’ in time, we develop a 'vertical' arrangement of the politico-intellectual projects underlying this map. In no way it should be considered as a linear narrative nor subsume to genetic or progressive sequences. Even if the 'settlement continuity' metaphor may be appealing to us, the questions that lie behind the processes of appearance, disappearance and coexistence of research programs are of a complexity that can not be framed in simplistic notions of evolution or revolution. In science studies one may be tempted to use this simplistic notions guided by the maintenance of a certain grounded vocabulary, an entirely illusory device where the same words refer to quiet different things, as some quiet different words may refer to very similar things.

    Archeologia di ieri e di oggi: la necropoli protostorica di S. Lucia di Tolmino, Carlo Marchesetti, Il Civico Museo di Storia ed Arte di Trieste

    A S. Lucia di Tolmino, alla metà dell’800 fu scoperta una necropoli del I millennio a.C. di eccezionale importanza, per numero di sepolture e per stratificazione socioeconomica. Il sito fu indagato fra 1884 e 1902 da C. Marchesetti, direttore del Museo Civico di Storia Naturale di Trieste, che mise in luce 3.960 tombe e ne pubblicò 2.950. Fra il 1886 e il 1890 altre 2.464 tombe furono scavate da J. Szombathy, i cui materiali sono stati pubblicati integralmente. Dopo la morte di Marchesetti (1926), i reperti della necropoli furono trasferiti al Civico Museo d’Antichità di Trieste, dove sono tuttora conservati insieme alla documentazione di scavo di qualità elevatissima. Da allora soltanto una parte dei materiali è stata restaurata e studiata. L’attività dell’assegno di ricerca ha riguardato la revisione e il completamento dei lavori, con lo scopo di ottenere una ricognizione sistematica di tutti i materiali dagli scavi Marchesetti e del loro stato di conservazione, nonché un lavoro di completa documentazione fotografica di ciascun reperto, unito alla digitalizzazione dei disegni esistenti e al riordino fisico dei materiali in vista di un riallestimento.

    Architecture and Autism. A Promising Relationship

    This paper reports on the opening intervention of the Workshop: the title, objectives and structure are explained. The study day was proposed as a multidisciplinary comparison of the relationship between architecture and autism. The starting assumption was that this is not merely a relationship necessary to improve the living conditions of autistic people and their families, but also potentially useful to broaden the possibilities and viewpoints of architecture rather than limiting them. Some theoretical references are presented to support this hypothesis, which could guide the new technical possibilities which engineering and technology can make practicable to enrich the sensitive responsiveness of architecture. Il paper riporta l’intervento di apertura del Workshop: vengono motivati il titolo, gli obiettivi e la struttura. La giornata di studi viene proposta come un confronto multidisciplinare di indagine sulla relazione tra Architettura e Autismo. L’assunto di partenza è che si tratti non solo di una relazione necessaria a migliorare le condizioni di vita delle persone autistiche e delle loro famiglie, ma anche potenzialmente utile ad ampliare le possibilità e i punti di vista dell’architettura più che di limitarli. Vengono esposti alcuni riferimenti teorici a supporto di questa ipotesi, che possano orientare le nuove possibilità tecniche che l’ingegneria e la tecnologia rendono praticabili per arricchire la reattività sensibile dell’architettura.

    Autism Spectrum Disorder: Building Requirements on Evidence-Based Research and Italian Facilities

    The paper discusses the typologies of facilities for young and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder within Italian context, the methodology applied by Sapienza University team in this field of research, and in conclusion, it shows a “best practice” to aid the transition of autistic young adults into the labour market. The paper underlines the importance of the research in this specific field, with the aim to identify the building requirements based on the users’ needs. L'articolo discute le tipologie di strutture per giovani e adulti con disturbo dello spettro autistico nel contesto italiano, la metodologia applicata dal team dell'Università Sapienza di Roma in questo campo di ricerca e, in conclusione, mostra una “best practice” che favorisce la transizione dei giovani adulti autistici nel mercato del lavoro. Il contributo sottolinea l'importanza della ricerca in questo campo specifico, con l'obiettivo di identificare i requisiti che guidano la progettazione delle strutture dedicate basati sulle esigenze degli utenti.

    Le huitième numéro des Cahiers de recherche de l’École Doctorale en Linguistique Française rassemble 13 contributions présentées par les docteurs des anciennes promotions de l’École lors d’un colloque qui s’est déroulé à Brescia en 2013. Celles-ci représentent les différents parcours de recherche qui caractérisent les sciences du langage en France et en Italie : les articles sont regroupés en quatre sections, qui vont des interactions verbales à l’analyse du discours, de la lexicologie/lexicographie et terminologie/terminographie en passant par la didactique du français langue étrangère. L’ouvrage se termine par une réflexion, teintée de mélancolie, où deux membres du Conseil de l’École Doctorale retracent le parcours scientifique et humain des dix-sept années d’activité de l’École Doctorale en Linguistique française.

    Censimento dei manoscritti e indagine sulla storia della tradizione del De viris illustribus di Petrarca volgarizzato da Donato degli Albanzani

    Per secoli, prima che la filologia ottocentesca mettesse ordine nelle attribuzioni, il volgarizzamento del De viris illustribus di Petrarca realizzato da Donato degli Albanzani (Pratovecchio, ante 1328 – Ferrara, post 1411) fu considerato a tutti gli effetti petrarchesco: un equivoco nato già nella tradizione manoscritta e definitivamente sancito dall’editio princeps del 1476, curata da Felice Feliciano e intitolata Libro degli homini famosi compillato per lo inclyto poeta miser Francisco Petrarca. In vista di una nuova edizione, quantomai auspicabile, il progetto di ricerca finanziato dall’assegno si è concentrato sulla catalogazione completa di tutti i testimoni dell’opera: il numero dei codici è così salito a 45 (più del doppio rispetto al breve censimento effettuato da Domenico Rossetti nel 1828). L’indagine sulla tradizione ha permesso di comprendere la struttura dell’opera e la sua straordinaria diffusione nell’Italia del XV secolo, nonché di arrivare a una nuova datazione del volgarizzamento, anticipata di un decennio rispetto all’ipotesi tradizionale.

    Cina, alcuni aspetti della sua dimensione internazionale e dell’ideologia del partito comunista

    Il presente contributo, spaziando nel corso della storia e facendo riferimento a pensatori, politici e attori della scena mondiale, affronta a rime sciolte diversi aspetti della Cina contemporanea in rapporto al mondo occidentale (europeo e statunitense in particolare), nella sua dimensione internazionale, avendo come punto di riferimento l’ideologia comunista alla base del partito politico da cui è governata. This contribution, ranging over the course of history and referring to thinkers, politicians and actors of the world scene, deals with different aspects of contemporary China in relation to the Western world (European and American in particular), in its international dimension, having as a point of reference the communist ideology at the base of the political party from which it is governed.

    Cina, diritto e democrazia: un’amicizia (ancora) possibile?

    L’articolo analizza il mutato scenario occorso in Cina dall’inizio della Presidenza di Xi Jinping (2013) in tema di affermazione dello stato di diritto, avanzamento dei diritti civili e democrazia. Alcune ipotesi di “democratizzazione” della Cina socialista, formulate alla fine del primo decennio del XXI secolo in un contesto di progressiva apertura della Cina e nascita di “germogli di società civile”, vengono analizzate nel mutato contesto politico interno ed internazionale. The article analyzes the changed scenario that has occurred in China since the beginning of the presidency of Xi Jinping (2013) in terms of affirming the rule of law, advancing civil rights and democracy. Some hypotheses of “democratization” of socialist China, formulated at the end of the first decade of the 21st century in a context of progressive opening of China and the birth of a new civil society, are analyzed in the changed domestic and international political context.
